The first week in May has gone pretty well here in the UK. The best  temperatures on record have made it a pleasure to be out in the bug! Three trips out this week, totalling not more than 50-odd miles, but they all count.

The highlight was probably today’s early morning trip out pre-9am. The sun was already up, so the roof was down. One big difference between driving the ’64 when I was a young’un and now is the number of aircooled VWs you no longer see. I used to pass them all the time, cheep the horn and flash the lights. I haven’t seen another one in ages.

Today we met a blue Austin Healey heading on one direction, and a yellow Ford Granada in the other. The kid driving can’t have been any older than 25, and he was very enthusiastic with the waving and light flashing. Good Lad! The trip was spent with some cheesy 90s dance tunes playing through a bluetooth speaker while we await some entertainment works… recapturing my youth. Another nice blast from the past was sitting at a busy junction, I’d stopped to play with the iPod for a second only to find a dude in a Merc had brought the main road to a halt so he could let me out. Another Good Lad!

Several calls over the course of the week to find someone willing to switch some tyres around old wheels and new BRMs drew a consistent blank until I finally called the dodgy skid-row guys @ [company name witheld – I’ll probably need them again!]. Turns out the Firestones on the back are 13(!) years old and probably merit replacing… so some new continentals ordered up. Fronts should be OK. So next Friday, that’ll be the outing!

And this week as far as I know, nothing flew off 🙂
